Episode Song:
Wake Up Time by Tom Petty from the Wildflower album
Lyrics
You follow your feelings, you follow your dreams
You follow the leader into the trees
And what’s in there waiting, neither one of us knows
You gotta keep one eye open the further you go
You never dreamed you’d go down on one knee, but now
Who could have seen, you’d be so hard to please somehow
You feel like a poor boy, a long way from home
You’re just a poor boy, a long way from home
And it’s wake up time
Time to open your eyes
And rise and shine
You spend your life dreaming, running ’round in a trance
You hang out forever and still miss the dance
And if you get lucky, you might find someone
To help you get over the pain that will come
Yeah, you were so cool back in high school, what happened
You were so sure not to have your spirits dampened
But you’re just a poor boy alone in this world
You’re just a poor boy alone in this world
And it’s wake up time
Time to open your eyes
And rise and shine
Well, if he gets lucky, a boy finds a girl
To help him to shoulder the pain in this world
And if you follow your feelings
And you follow your dreams
You might find the forest there in the trees
Yeah, you’ll be alright, it’s just gonna take time, but now
Who could have seen you’d be so hard to please somehow
You’re just a poor boy a long way from home
You’re just a poor boy a long way from home
And it’s wake up time
Time to open your eyes
And rise and shine
‘Cause it’s wake up time
It’s time to open your eyes
And rise and shine
You 2 are a-maxing!! I miss you both. I’m still a friend. Always remember I love you guys. This is awesome!! Good for you.
You guys are great
Way to make lemonade. Love you both and many Melanie!
Baby Melanie!
Beautiful you two! Love ya both!
A very powerful, raw and moving story. I had trouble listening to this because it brought back my own story. I met Chris in treatment; our stories are extremely similar. He and Amy are two of the strongest people I have ever met and there is so much to be learned listening to this. I look forward to the next episode. Love you guys so much! Stay Strong, Much Love, Clint
Great job people. You’re doing honest, inspiring work. Love to you!
I am blown away by the honesty in this podcast! I’m so happy for you two and am excited to follow you along your journey. The stigma around addiction is deep-seated and far-reaching, and this is how that stigma is broken. Addiction is nothing to shy away from or ostracize. Embrace people who are going through an addiction and provide them with the support they need, just like you two are doing (especially you Amy, the strength that you have is admiring and rare). You mentioned mindfulness and the other skills that were taught in the treatment center and I’m so happy you’re planning to share those with everyone. I recommend you check out the Center for Mindful Self-Compassion: https://centerformsc.org Learning self-compassion has changed my life and has helped many of the clients that I work with. They have meditations that are so helpful and a nice change from other types of meditation. Congratulations to you both and I look forward to hearing more from you!
So proud of you!
Love ya!
I’m always a little surprised how when I listen to a story of addiction, I can pull so much of my own journey out of it. I love what Chris said about how recovery teaches you so much about life! I recall once I said to my counsellor “OMG! I hate to say this but if I wasn’t an alcoholic, I would have never learned these things. Am I the fortunate one?” I had to wonder because I had answers to things that had harmed me for years. One example is page 417 of the big book on acceptance. That changed my whole life!
Thank you for sharing… and thanks to Laurie Macy for posting.
